Position Description of an Accounting Circle Executive Committee Member
Established in 1981, as The Accounting Advisory Board (AAB) which became
the Executive Committee of the Accounting Circle in 1997, the Executive Committee
advises the Accounting Department on all issues related to program development
including advice about mission and strategy. The Executive Committee has been
instrumental in providing advice concerning program planning initiatives and
offering assistance in helping us achieve our private development objectives.
The Board generally meets twice a year: in the fall on campus during a football
weekend, and in the spring in the Portland area. Our Board members constitute
a diverse group from public accounting and industry.
A member of the Accounting Circle Executive Committee is appointed to
hold a position of demonstrated involvement, support, and commitment to
the Accounting Department at the University of Oregon's Lundquist College of
Business. In accepting this three-year appointment, an individual agrees
to fulfill the requirements and meet the responsibilities associated with the
Accounting Circle Executive Committee membership. These include, but
are not limited to:
Attend and participate in all scheduled committee meetings.
These are held twice each year (fall and spring). Meetings are normally
scheduled for two hours.
Set and approve the Accounting Circle annual calendar.
Set and approve the Accounting Circle goals each year.
Assist in new member recruitment by identifying potential members
and making 10 personal contacts to Accounting Circle prospects annually.
This may include telephone calls, personal visits, hosting a development
event, a handwritten note, etc.
Serve as a representative and spokesperson for the Accounting Department
at the Charles H. Lundquist College of Business. This task may involve
talking with prospective students, meeting with other alumni, communicating
with area legislators, attending local alumni chapter events, and more.
Remain an Accounting Circle member in good standing.
Provide feedback on programs and initiatives to be funded by the
Accounting Circle.
Serve in an advisory capacity to the Department of Accounting.
